Our Story

About Dog Fence Guide

Dog Fence Guide started because the existing information on underground dog fences was either sales pitches dressed as advice or contradicting forum threads. We wanted one straight resource for the homeowner installing their first fence and the veteran dealer doing their thousandth.

Why we exist

A safe boundary is one of the most important things you can give a dog who likes to run, and one of the easiest things to get wrong. We saw too many fences fail because of a $4 splice connector used wrong, or training that skipped a phase, or a wire run too close to a chain-link section nobody told the installer about.

Most of those failures come from gaps in information, not gaps in tools. So we built a place where the information is complete, free, and written by the same people who answer the questions that come through our contact page.

Dog Fence Guide is the education and planning platform operated by THE DOG FENCE GUY! LLC, our Pennsylvania parent company, publicly known as The Dog Fence Guy!. DogFenceGear.com is our online store, DOG FENCE PRO is our equipment brand, and InvPetFencing.com is our Pennsylvania installation and service business.

Revenue from these businesses helps keep the guides and tools free. Commercial relationships never change our standards: we distinguish repairs from replacements, support both DIY and professional installation, and explain the equipment and training behind every recommendation.

What we cover

DIY guides walk installers through every step from layout to testing. Training programs cover everything from the first flag to chase-proofing a sighthound. Troubleshooting docs diagnose the 95% of failures you can fix yourself.

When DIY isn't the right fit, our dealer network connects you with vetted local installers for a free quote. No lead-selling, no upsell calls. Just a direct match to the installer who serves your area.

What we stand by

Free, in-depth content

Every guide on this site is written to actually solve the problem, not to push a product. If you need a $30 part instead of a $300 kit, we'll say so.

Safety first, always

We won't promote an underground fence system, training technique, or installation shortcut we wouldn't use on our own dogs.

Two paths, both supported

DIY installers get free tools and guides that cover the whole job. Anyone who'd rather hire it out gets a free quote routed to a local installer. We don't push you toward either path.

Transparent about how we are connected

The Dog Fence Guy! is our parent company, DogFenceGear.com is our store, and DOG FENCE PRO is our equipment brand. Revenue from store sales and professional installation helps fund this site, and we disclose those relationships wherever they matter.

The biggest one gets its own page: every number on this site traces to a primary source, and we attack our own claims before publishing them. Read how we check our facts.
